There are really two different aspects of your basic or natural playing sytle.

  • tight or loose
  • aggressive or passive

A tight player tends to play few hands, and only enter a pot when they have a quality holding. A loose player enters many pots with a large range of hands. An aggressive player prefers to bet with or without value in their hand, and a passive player tends to check or call.

Beat Cards

I was thinking about the odds of a hand I recently played, where I flopped trips and ran into bigger trips. What are the odds of that happening? Using PokerOdds ( a free program ) I crunched some numbers and came up with some rules of thumb for beat card odds on the flop.
