Some friends of mine Mr. M and Mrs. J are joining me to play at Lucky’s Card Room in Tampa today. There is a $60 deep stack (10k) tournament today at 1:00. With a $5 dealer addon that’s 11,000 starting chips. This is a small and quiet poker room. Including the 2 tournament tables, there are 4 tables going here. Only 20 people in this tournament. Blinds are 100/200 and I raise to 800 with JJ. The flop comes KQblank. I bet 800 and my opponent folds. Whew!
Interesting pot with the table bully. He has been shoving hard all day so far. Blinds are 400/800 and i call his raise to 1,200 with JcTc. Board comes T86 and he bets 2,000. I figure I am probably best here but would love to improve. I call. A blank comes on the turn and he bets 3,000. I call and only have 3,700 left behind. River is a blank and he bets 4,000 to put me allin. I debate internally, could he have an overpair? A better ten? After I while I decide probably not and call, he shows a busted draw and I double up to 18,000. I lose a few speculative small pots and get down to about 9k. Blinds are now 500/1,000 with a 100 ante. I get short stacked after raising with 55 and having to fold to big bets on the flop. I’m now in the danger zone with this stack. I am in the big blind with J6off and a limped pot. Flop comes QJ4 and I move allin. Mr. Bully snap calls, uh oh. He shows a Queen but I get lucky and river a jack for a double up to 9,400. Soon after I get AcQc and move allin on a shorter stack and get called by TT. His tens hold up and I am now down to 3,900. Some kinda roller coaster today. I am now in the big blind and Mr. Bully shoves alot of chips in. I look down to see AK and move allin. He calls the extra 400 and shows A9. I feel good, but wouldn’t you know a nine comes on the flop and I can’t catch up. I go out in 11th place.
Mr. M and Mrs. J are still in it and have made the final table. Mr. M goes out when he calls an allin with JQ on a jack high board, the opponent shows complete air with 62 suited, but catches runner runner flush to win. Ouch… While we are waiting for Mrs. J, Mr. M and I play Cribbage on our smart phones for $1 a game, and I win $2 from him. Lol… where’s this luck on the felt.
More to come… I think I will stick to Hard Rock Tampa and some Home Games that I enjoy for a while, instead of trying out these poker rooms I have never been to before.
