Big H has his usual home game tonight, $65 entry fee, and this time I had to do an addon for $10 at the first break. My first hand played is a full house on the turn, and I win a decent amount of chips. I lose a big pot with JJ vs QQ, but luckily manage to get away from my hand. After the break and addon I raise a hand with KdTd and get two callers, flop comes T37. I bet and get one caller, Mr. J with 44 … I win the big pot and get a speech “can’t believe you raised with KT!”. Oh well … tilt kills. I now have 8175 in chips and am in good shape.

Save The Boobies
Today is a charity event at Sip, a bar close to me, run by Orlando Hold’em. The charity is Libby’s Legacy which deals with breast cancer screening for people without health insurance. Entry fee is $30 + $10 for last man standing. 45 people are signed up, and starting stacks are 2,200.

Hard Rock Tampa
Today is the 12:30 tournament at Tampa Hard Rock, for $100 + $10 dealer addon. Starting stacks are around 5,500 in chips. Big H and his friend Miss Psych have joined me today, and I am glad of the company, this drive is getting tedious. Miss Psych is going to play cash, while Big H and I will play the tourney. We arrived a little late, so the tourney is already in progress with about 43 players total. Pays top 5 spots.

Exciting news … The World Poker Tour is coming to Florida! I saw a press release that the WPT and Seminole Gaming have a partnership adding a televised WPT event in Florida in the Spring of 2011. It’s a $10,000 buyin event at either the Hard Rock Tampa or Hard Rock Hollywood. Since the Florida poker laws changed this July 1st, I guess this is now possible. Save up, let’s all satellite into this event!

Hard Rock Tampa
Tampa again today, this time for the 12:30 tourney for $120 + $10 dealer addon. 6,000 starting stack and about 3 tables of players. With this few players, the tourney pays only 4 spots. I have been here before when they pay top 10. The very first hand I get is AK and I play small ball, calling it down, to lose against AJ who flopped a J. Oh well, I just got here and I hate to get too frisky on the first hand. Nobody believes you. Not a huge hit to my stack anyway - 5,325 left. Next hand I play is KdTd in a limped pot. Board comes TTblankAK and I win a sizeable pot against 9T. 7,800 in chips now, and the table starts to tighten up a bit, except for seat 10. He is the big stack by far, and ridiculously aggressive. I think he has been in 9 out of 10 hands. He can’t last long at that pace.

Today is usually my day to play the home game at Big H’s house, but late in the day I realize it is not on today. Oops, It’s pretty late so I will have to pick up an Orlando Hold’em league game. Luckily there is a new venue opening today at 903 Mills Market (a bar/restaurant).

Hard Rock Tampa
A late start today to get to Hard Rock Tampa, I buy in to a 1/2 game for $100. I am in seat 10 and the very first hand is QQ. There is a straddle to 4 in front of me, so I raise to 12. I have no idea how this table is running, so I am not sure if this raise is too small or too big. I get 3 callers (not good, no Ace no King please!), and the flop comes Ace high. Big bet in front of me, and after a long think I fold. Could I have been good here? Maybe, but I doubt it, particularly since I have no read on player tendencies.

Hard Rock Tampa
Another day at Hard Rock and I sign up for a $50 sng with $5 dealer addon, starting stack is 2,000 in chips and blinds are 25/50. This game pays top 2, $150 and $100. I am not a huge fan of the structure, the rake feels a little heavy to me, but I think this is where the weaker players go (It’s a slow burn, and one lucky hand can make it for you). It’s also a pretty obvious chop situation, so you usually chop for $125 when it gets to 2 players. There’s a few “young guns” here so I expect some action. I am in seat 3. Remember that this is 6 handed, so card values are lower than a 10 handed table. Read the rest of this entry »
